Marriage Daze

Chapter 19: Sex and the City

Notes: From Cecilia’s point of view.

Cecilia pushed the door opened to the club. It was pretty amazing how much power the mentioning of Fred’s name had sometimes. She hadn’t been totally convinced that they would get in by themselves. Fred was usually the one who got them into places like this.

Of course, the people working there knew them pretty well by now, but still.

Money could solve any kind of problems and open most doors; that were for sure.

“We don’t really have to hang out together, right?” Julie asked worriedly.

“Don’t worry, you can skip away now if you want,” Cecilia said. “Just don’t get into any trouble.”

Julie gave her a tired gaze. “Yes, coz I’m the one who needs to be told twice. You’re the usual saint among us.”

Cecilia didn’t bother answering. She had given up on getting Julie to NOT hate her. It was mostly Fred’s fault, because he didn’t like Julie at all, and wasn’t afraid to say so either. That only resulted in Cecilia being in the middle of their fight.

“Let’s split up,” Connie suggested. “I’m going to get something drink.”

Sarah, Cecilia and Connie went at one direction, while Julie walked over to the opposite side of the room.

“Maybe we should tell the guys that we’re here,” Connie said. “I mean, we’re never out on our own without them. They might tell on us.”

“Much can be said about those imbecile guys, but they’re not tattle-tales. Besides, they would be in the same amount of troubles as we, since they’re out all the time too,” Cecilia pointed out. “But it would be kind of fun to make Fred jealous. You know, let his brain boil a little.”

“Is that some sort of Swedish expression, or did you just make that up?” Sarah smiled. “Because I’ve never heard it before.”

Cecilia made a face at her and sat down at one of the tables. “Look, I might not be the greatest company right now,” she warned. “I’m sad and depressed. Just so you know.”

“Oh, come on!” Sarah exclaimed. “Don’t let the guys ruin the day for you. You said it yourself; they’re imbecile idiots. Who knows, maybe something will happen tonight that makes it all worthwhile? You don’t wanna miss out on that just because you’re mad at Fred, right?”

“Thank you Dr. Joyce Brothers,” Cecilia muttered. “Are you done?”

Sarah nodded. “I think so. Please don’t call me that again, okay?”

“What do you guys want to drink?” Connie interrupted. “I suggest no alcohol, since we have school tomorrow. Wow, that sounded almost responsible. Was that me talking?”

Sarah and Cecilia laughed. “Yes, that was you,” Cecilia said. “It sounded like you anyway. No alcohol? How do you get drunk without alcohol?”

“Uhm, I think that’s the point. To not get drunk,” Sarah pointed out. “I think that’s a great idea.”

“You never get drunk anyway. You’re just worried that you’d have to pay the cab-fair when we go home,” Cecilia smiled. “Does this mean no tequila?”

“Yeah, tough luck,” replied Connie.

Cecilia sighed deep and closed her eyes. What was the point in being depressed if you couldn’t get drunk?

A couple of hours later they had all split into different directions. While Connie and Sarah was somewhere close to the dance floor, Cecilia had decided to brake that ‘no alcohol’ rule Connie had established earlier.

The four of them usually didn’t hung out together like they did tonight, so maybe it wasn’t such a huge surprise that they didn’t hung out now either. Sarah never went out with them, and Julie went with her own friends from outside the team.

Best friends forever weren’t exactly a term you could describe the four of them with.

“There you are!” Connie said and tapped Cecilia on the shoulder. “You rather drink then dance?”

“Yes, right now that’s the mood I’m in. I’m just thinking about how friendly you and Sarah are, even though you should hate each other.”

Connie laughed. “Because of the whole Guy-thing? You know me better then that, Cecilia. Besides, have you ever tried to be angry with that girl? She’s too sweet and nice.”

“Extremely annoying, isn’t it?” Cecilia replied. “She’s one of those people you don’t know if you should love or hate. But it’s almost impossible to dislike her. She’s better then anyone of us.”

“Extremely annoying,” Connie agreed. “Let’s tell her that when she comes back.”

Cecilia nodded.

“Have you ever felt like you’re stuck in an episode of ‘Days of our Lives’? You know, when every day seems to go on forever and ever. Everything you do takes twice as long to finish, and all the people around you are lunatics.”

“Jeez, thanks,” Connie said.

“You know what I mean.”

“No, I don’t feel like I’m stuck in a TV-soap.”

Cecilia sighed. “Well, what are you stuck in then?”

“The longest conversation ever?” Connie asked with a smile. “I dunno, my days feel shorter then necessary.”

“Ah, you’re a sitcom-type-of-person,” Cecilia slurred. “I had the same conversation with Charlie a couple of days ago. He said he was reality-TV.”

Connie rolled her eyes. “I think you’ve had enough, you’re beginning to babble,” she said. “But you usually do that a lot anyway.”

“Maybe we shouldn’t compare our lives to TV-shows,” Cecilia continued. “I’ve got it! You could be Miranda, Julie could be Samantha, I could be Carrie, and Sarah could be...”

“Why can’t I be Carrie? I don’t wanna be Miranda,” Connie muttered. “She’s boring.”

“I’m Carrie, because... Well, I just am! Maybe you’d be a better Charlotte? I mean; you already have the guy of your dreams. I just have Fred. Sarah could be Miranda, because she’s not here to object about it.”

“Fine, I’ll be Charlotte. The next time we play this game, I’ll be Carrie,” Connie smiled. “Until then, could you maybe cut down on the drinks? You don’t wanna choke on a cosmopolitan, do you?”

“It’s just tequila,” Cecilia muttered back. “And you’re no fun to play with. Look, there’s Miranda.”

Sarah went up to them. “I’ve been looking for you. What are you doing?”

“Hi Miranda,” Cecilia said.

“What?” Sarah asked with a confused voice and looked at Connie, who just shrugged.

“We have something to tell you,” Cecilia began. “We’ve established that you’re a sweet, nice, extremely annoying type-of-person. And you’re Miranda.”

“Oh... kay,” Sarah said slowly and looked at Connie again.

“Don’t pay attention to her, she’s drunk.”
