Notes: From Adam’s point of view.

Adam was going to spend his day at a local law-firm in the city. The main reason that he changed his job with Travis was that his Dad wanted him to. Adam’s Dad was a known lawyer back in Minnesota and his ambition to get his son to study law was endless.

Adam had decided to make the best of it anyway, even though he didn’t plan on working with whatever it was his Dad wanted him to work with. Maybe law wasn’t so bad?

Who was he kidding; it probably sucked.

“Make the best of it, Banks,” Connie ordered him while they were walking from the bus-station. She was just tagging along as company, in lack of other things to do.

“Maybe you could do this for me, Con? I can pay you,” Adam offered. “It can’t be worse then spending the whole day with an egg, can it? You’re supposed to be at a day-care, right? Let’s switch assignments!”

Connie just gave him a tired look. “You and children?” she snorted. “There’s a policy to not kill children when you’re working at a day-care center. I hope you’re aware of that...”

Adam shrugged. “I know children better then I know law-stuff. Sue this person, go to court for that person, judge him, save her. Nah, it’s too boring for me.”

“Oh, come on! It seems so fun in ‘Ally McBeal’,” Connie giggled. “Maybe you could be that kind of lawyer?”

“An insane lawyer?” Adam suggested.

“So? You got the insane part worked out already!” Connie exclaimed happily.

They both went up the stairs and in through the door with the official sign saying ‘law practice’. Connie stayed behind him when he went up to the counter next to the entrance.

“I’m Adam Banks, I’m supposed to work here today.”

“You’re assigned to be in the court all day. Mr. Welvane has a big case today and you’re supposed to spend the day with him. Here’s your ID-card for today.”

Adam grabbed the card and turned to Connie. “I guess I’m really a big-shot now, with my own ID-card and everything.”

“Don’t be too big-headed now, Banksie. You’re still just here today.”

“Who knows what sort of impact my appearance will have on this law firm. I might be one of those people who have a high IQ or something,” Adam joked. “I might be what they need to avoid getting bankrupt.”

“Two minutes ago you hated law, and now you’re the wiz-kid of law? Go find that Weaver guy now, okay?”

“I’m pretty sure he was called Welvane,” Adam corrected her.

“You’re sure it wasn’t Velour?” Connie smiled. “I’ll wait here, they might have marriage counseling here. I know two people who could use it.”

“I bet twenty bucks that you want me to think it’s you and Fred, when it’s really you and Guy you’re referring to.”

“Go before I’m forced to hurt you in some sort of way,” Connie suggested. “Maybe I’ll still be here when you come back.”

Adam smiled at her and walked over to the elevator. What was the expression he’d used earlier? ‘Go to court for a person’? That person just had to be Ms. Adams, right?

After being stuck in that hot, unventilated courtroom all morning, Adam decided to escape for a while. He was bored out of his mind, and also starving. He was very surprised to see that Connie was still up waiting for him on the sixth floor.

“Wow, that was a long recital,” Connie complained when he walked out of the elevator.

“I’m pretty sure it’s not called a ‘recital’,” Adam guessed.

“I’m pretty sure it’s called that, because you know why?”

“Why?”

“I’ve read every number of ‘Lawyer’s Digest’ or whatever it was called, and I know everything about being a lawyer now.”

“Congrats, maybe you can tell me about it later, when I do give a damn,” Adam muttered. “Wanna tag along for some lunch? I’m supposed to be back in thirty minutes. I don’t even think I can decide what to eat in thirty minutes.”

“Fine, I’ll tag along. You’re paying, right?” Connie asked.

“I guess,” Adam said. “But that doesn’t mean that we’re eating lobster or... something as expensive as lobster.”

“Did you lose your imagination in that court-room?” Connie asked. “Look, I can eat pizza, is that good enough for ya?”

Adam was just about to answer when he felt his phone buzz in the pocket of his jacket. “I’m just gonna answer this call, Con. Then I’ll buy you as much pizza as you want... Hello?”

It was a very short phone call, and he was really confused when he finally hung-up.

“Who was it?” Connie asked.

“You’re not gonna believe this, but Guy just told me that he was trapped in an elevator with Sarah,” Adam laughed.

“So?”

“Come on, we have to do something! Let’s help them out, and tease them forever,” Adam said.

Connie’s face lit up. “Sounds great! Maybe we can take a picture of it too? I’ll bring a camera!”

Adam watched as Connie walked over to the door. “You’ll do pretty much anything for the satisfaction to make an ass out of Guy, right?”

“You betcha,” Connie said happily.

Adam just rolled his eyes and followed her through the door. Somehow he had a feeling that he wouldn’t return to any kind of courtroom anytime soon.
