Friendship
Chapter
3: Jelaousy among Ducks
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Notes: From Fred’s point of view.
Fred was
sitting in the locker-room, waiting for Charlie, Cecilia and Travis to show up,
so the practice could begin.
Cecilia had
told him about Adam’s little ‘adventure’ on Friday night, and he couldn’t help
but feeling a bit annoyed over the fact that Adam had just left her alone like
that. He wasn’t sure he had gotten all the details; he had been pretty
hung-over that same morning when Cecilia wanted him to meet her at Rainbow.
“Are you
sure everything is okay with the new line-ups?” Charlie asked Travis when they
both came bursting in through the door. “We have to start practice on them
today. Coach Bombay will have an outburst if we don’t.”
“We’re
ready, it’s only Cecilia’s part that’s missing.” Travis looked around the room.
“Where is she?”
Charlie
moaned. “If she doesn’t show up I have to start punish her. I have some new
evil punishment I have to try out on someone. Fred, where is she?”’
“I think
she’s working late today,” Fred said bitterly. He still wasn’t too satisfied
with the idea of Cecilia working at Rainbow.
Charlie
nodded and pulled Travis’s arm. “We have to start without her.”
Fred
noticed that everyone in the room got awfully quiet after his last statement. They
knew that he wasn’t too happy with Cecilia working, so they tried to stay off
that subject.
“Anyway,”
Charlie continued. “We have to begin now. Where’s Banks?”
Right on
cue, Adam and Cecilia came walking into the locker-room. Oddly enough, they were
as spaced out as usually. Despite from this weekend’s rough turns, they didn’t
seem to be affected by that at all.
Fred knew
that he should be happy for her, but he wasn’t for some reason. His bad mood
just increased with the image of her and Adam, laughing like nothing ever
happened.
“I’m
telling you, it’s true!” Cecilia laughed. She was right in the middle of a
conversation with Adam when she stepped into the room.
“You’re so
lying. You cannot! Prove it!” Adam looked at her in misbelief. “I’m not moving
until you prove it.”
“I can’t do
it if you stare at me,” Cecilia explained.
Adam
shrugged. “So, you’re lying?”
Cecilia
squeaked and started to bounce up and down. Fred just became even more annoyed
with her when he saw her do that.
“Guess they’re
friends again, huh?” Charlie said sarcastically.
“Cecilia,
you’re such a liar. If you don’t prove it, I won’t believe you.”
“I can do
it!” Cecilia said firmly. “I can!”
Adam
grabbed her face with his hands and looked her straight in the eyes. “Do it.”
“What? What
is she supposed to do?” Fred’s question was a little sharper then he wanted it
to be.
Adam
answered, without letting go of Cecilia’s face. “She says that she can change the
color of her eyes, just by rolling them fast enough. And I say she’s full
of...”
“I’m not! I
can do it! If I roll my eyes fast enough, it looks like they change color.”
“Roll your
eyes? You’re not that girl, you know.”
“What
girl?” Cecilia asked.
“That girl
in that movie, you know.”
“The
television-girl?”
“Nah, the
other one.”
“You mean
the girl from the Exorcist?”
“Yeah,”
Adam smiled. “That’s the one. You’re not her.”
“I know, I
didn’t say I could turn my head around, if that’s what she does. I said ‘roll
my eyes’. Not the same, Adam.”
“Whatever,
you can’t change the colors of your eyes by doing that anyway.”
Adam shook
her head around, and Cecilia pushed him away. They began to row with each
other, but Muck interrupted them.
“That’s
enough, now. Try to focus, we’re already late for our ice-time.”
Cecilia
whined when Adam twisted her arm around. “Tell him to stop hurting me, and I’ll
get focused!”
Muck just
gave Adam a warningly look, and Adam let go of her arm right away. Maybe they
could disturb Coach Bombay ‘til he lost his patience, but when it came to Muck,
they all had the greatest respect for him.
“Five
minutes, then I want you out on the ice,” Muck said, closing the door behind
him when he left.
Cecilia
kept bouncing to Charlie’s chagrin. He didn’t look like he had patience enough
for one of Cecilia’s ‘Cee-spirit’ times. Adam and Cecilia kept bitching with
each other for quite some time, until Charlie finally lost his mood.
“Could you
two please just shut up already!” he almost screamed. “I’m trying to run a team
here!”
“Oh,
Charlie-darling,” Cecilia shouted, very loud. What was up with her today? “It’s
not that hard to run this team. I should know, I’m captain too!”
“Doesn’t
look like it,” Charlie growled. “I’d like to see you run this team by
yourself.”
“Ah,
Charlie-dar...” Cecilia didn’t finish her sentence when she saw the look on
Charlie’s face. If she said that last ‘darling’ he probably would’ve killed
her. “Cheer up, sweetie. You don’t see me mop around, do you?”
“Maybe you
should,” Fred said under his breath. Guy, who was sitting next to him, was the
only one close enough to hear his comment. Guy seemed a bit uncomfortable with
overhearing Fred’s words. They exchanged a look, but Guy didn’t say anything.
“Cheer up?
You look cheered enough for both of us. And the whole team too, for that
matter. Get changed, or I have to do something drastic.”
“Sounds
interesting,” Cecilia smiled annoyingly. “Tell me when you’re done
brainstorming about what to come up with.”
Charlie
took a step closer, but Adam interfered. Fred couldn’t help but letting out a
whining noise. What the hell was he doing?
Cecilia
gave Charlie a dazzling grin and went over to her place on the bench. Charlie
extended his hand to grab her by the collar, but Adam somehow managed to avoid
him from that. While Charlie was trying to calm down, Cecilia went over to
Fred.
“Hi, watcha
doin’?” Fred looked at her, and couldn’t help but smiling when he saw her face.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on the cheek. Had she
completely lost it, or what?
“I’m
‘notcha’ doin’ anything,” Fred answered. He pushed her over to her side of the
bench and tried to avoid looking her in the eyes. “Sit down and be quiet now,
okay?”
“’key,” she
said, still with a big grin on her face. She leaned forward and gave him a
kiss. He was about to pull away, but instead he stayed in her embrace and
answered her kiss. Why was it so hard to resist this girl?
“Stop it,
you two,” Nish whined. “I’m trying to keep my food down, don’t make it any
harder, okay?”
“Maybe you
shouldn’t have eaten that seventh bag of chips then,” Cecilia bitched back
without turning her head around.
Nish
moaned. Fred tried to pull away again, this time Cecilia pulled away too.
While she
got on her feet and went over to her locker, he couldn’t help but feeling
completely helpless, like he was trapped in her world. He loved her, that much
he knew. But watching her smile and laugh with Adam, like she did at that
second, made him wonder if she maybe was pushing it too far this time. Or if he
was the one pushing things too far.
