The Migration Wars (178~238) devastated early Chybisa. When the barbarian onslaught began, the peoples Shobald united were settled over the wide expanse of land between the Osel and Ulmerien rivers. Before it was over, they found themselves squeezed into the narrow strip along the bend of the Ulmerien River. Successive monarchs have attempted to reclaim the lost lands, but the warlike Pagaelin stubbornly hold their ground. What little success had been achieved was effectively wiped out by the devastion of the Kaldoran invasion during the Treasure War (675-687). The kingdom still claims the land south of the Osel River, as well as the settlement at Oselbridge, though control of the region remains in the hands of the Pagaelin.

Far from being the vast, empty wilderness many believe it to be, the area between the rivers bears many signs of its former civilized inhabitants. The south bank of the Osel is thick with the ruins of long abandoned Chybisan settlements. Not far off either side of Genin's Trail are remains of the farms and hamlets that once made Chybisa famous for its fertile lands. As is usually the case, such places of mystery are often accompanied by tales and rumors of lost treasures. But those bold enough to explore them must first deal with the Pagaelin who now claim that area as their own.
