Church Tongue: the band

The idea for Church Tongue came from New Jersey bass player, Brett Poco. After his first semester at UofA was over, he was tired of playing in groups that were full of egos and closed minds, he decided to start up a crazy band that would mix funk, jazz, and rock.

Brett lived next door to a wierd metal guitarist from Mesa, AZ named Russ, and told him the idea. Then Brett went on the hunt to find other musicians he knew from being in the University Jazz Band.

Andrew, a trumpet player who performed at the 2002 Grammy Awards, was excited to get a change of pace. Ethan nodded, smiled, and then blew us away with his smooth sax tone. Garrett was a senior who could squeeze the band into his schedule, and boy are we glad he did.

At first, Matt (Brett's roommate) was only filling in on keyboards. But the trombone player was a flake, and Matt was eager to play the bone. Which left the band with the problem of having no keyboardist. Luckily, somebody had Tristan's number.

So there it is, the story of the founding of Church Tongue. The name comes from the Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer. Just because it sounds crazy. Click below for individual profiles.
