Race To The Sky
The Race To The Sky is a 350 mile race here in Montana. Our kennel has participated in four races and is looking forward to a fifth one. Janet and Mike have run in two races each. This year was Janet's turn to race again, but unfortunately, the race was cancelled due to lack of snow.

We will be writing about each of our races a little at a time, so check back later to see what has been added. The link at the left will take you to the story about the 2001 race.

Training For The 2006 Race:

Since Janet was already signed up for the 2005 race, her entry fee was automatically transferred to the 2006 race.

The first step in preparing for the race is to set goals and choose which dogs to train. My goal is to improve on previous years, so I am shooting for a top 5 finish this year. To do well in the race, it helps to have veteran dogs, so I am choosing my more experienced dogs and leaving most of the yearlings off the list for this year. Two of the best yearlings trained with the main team in 2005, so they are probably ready for the intensive training needed to do well in 2006.

The veterans in the training pool are Ghost, Fresca, Luna, Current, Switch, Breaker, Charge, Voltage, Phase, Coconut, Walnut, Raisin, Almond, and Gravity. The two yearlings are Sleet and Lightning. This is a total of 16 dogs from which I will choose my final 12. However, look for this pool to change as training progresses. Check the Meet The Team page for the latest configurations for Janet's and Mike's teams.
