Other Achievements of Akbar the Great
An important achievement of Akbar was the system of government which he developed. Lasting for more than 200 hundred years after his death, it proved to be an extremely effecient system. Firstly, it consisted of a bureaucratic system. Made up of mansadbars, or military commanders who commanded armies ranging from 10 to 10 000. These armies were brought to the use of military campaigns and other purposes. Also, mansadbars alos performed civil duties. Thus, they served two purposes, civil and military. Beside the mansadbar army, Akbar also had a private army called the Dakhili. They were a body of very highly paid soldiers called Ahadi. This was the emperor's army, which would be used if any noble of mansadbar rebelled. In this way, Akbar was able to fend off any rebellion, ensuring the prosperity and stability of the Mughal Empire. Also, Akbar also developed a very good system to rule his empire. Divided into 15 provinces, each was ruled by a Subadar. He controlled full authority in the province, but could by dismissed if found to be corrupt or unjust. Thus to check on the Subadar, Akbar installed a post called the Diwan who acted as a financial controller and to check on the Subadar. However, Akbar was not satisfied. To ensure the everything went well, he secretly formed a group of secret reporters, who would instantly report to Akbar if the Subadar had done anything wrong. In this way, Akbar mantained an upright an effecient administration.
