SOME EXPERIMENTS IN SPECIFIC CAMPS: DACHAU ~ The first medical experiments were conducted in Dachau. Dr. Rascher conducted high-altitude for the German Air Force, who provided the low-pressure chambers for the experiments. Dr. Rascher conducted freezing experiments to determine how to warm someone who was nearly frozen to death for the benefit of the German armed forces. Dr. Klaus Schilling conducted experiments in which healthy prisoners were injected with malaria in order to treat the disease with experimental drugs. At the request of the German Air Force and Navy, experiments were conducted in which scientists sought means to make seawater drinkable. Other Experiments at Dachau: Castration Artificial insemination Sterilization Abortion SACHSENHAUSEN Dr. Werner Fischer conducted experiments on Gypsies to prove their blood was different than German blood. Dr. Mrugowsky experimented with projectiles that contained aconitine nitrate. Projectiles were shot into the thighs of victims to prove that death would occur within two hours. The pathology department of Sachsenhausen provided universities and anatomical institutes with skulls, skeletons, and organs. BUCHENWALD ~Some of the worst medical experiments were conducted at Buchenwald with the cooperation of Germany's armed forces, I.G.Farben, and the Behring Works. ~SS rented out prisoners to industries, chemical firms specifically, for experimental use. ~The Institute of Hygiene of the Waffen SS opened a clinic for typhus and virus research in Buchenwald in the fall of 1941. RAVENSBRUCK ~Women and children were the only prisoners in Ravensbruck, and therefore the only victims. ~Women were subjected to infection with various diseases and multiple kinds of surgical operations. ~Most of the women who were experimented on had been condemned to death by the Gestapo. Dr. Clauberg sterilized Gypsy women and their young (5-8 yrs old) daughters in January 1945. Dr. K.F. Gebhardt was the scientist in charge of the medical experiment project in Ravensbruck.
