| Ok, since the last time I wrote I had computer troubles. MY popup killer was working very well, so well that I couldn't open this application. But I couldn't turn it off because it had disappeared from the tool bar. I've fixed it now, but what a pain in the ass. So I wasn't able to talk about Karla and I talking about everything. Buying a house is one of the most stressful things you can do in life, and buying a fixer-upper is probably at the worst end of that. I can understand all of that, and what happened because of it. Hopefully, though, it won't happen again. After all that, I did end making it up to Menominee on Friday night. I stopped on the way and got our favorite meal at our favorite chinese place and took it with me. Karla had to work, so I just dropped the food off and went to the house. I had the building inspectors report and was able to go through the house and picture all of the things that need to be fixed, or changed. Mostly small things, like rewiring outlets or replacing a pane of glass. The biggest, most expensive thing, I think is replacing the railing on both staircases. The front one we wanted to do at some point anyway. Something more formal, more attractive. Now we HAVE to do it, instead of just wanting to. So, once the heat is in and the other mechanical repairs are done, so we have water and so forth, we get to replace those railings. As well as one outside. A few light fixtures et cetera. So, what about the rest of the weekend? Karla worked late Friday and Saturday. I spent Saturday night and a few hours on Sunday removing all the radiators from their pipes, though not form the house--a bit too big, too heavy. Also, removed most of the asbestos from the pipes in the basement. I thought I'd gotten it all, but it had been too dusty and not well enough lit. So, on Sunday I discovered I'd missed a bit. I cut all the valves off the pipes downstairs, and a pair of pipes in the basement, as I begin my demolition of the heating plant. I have to do a bit of plumbing soon as well--replacing a couple of blown Ts, and the boiler circuit. Hopefully get the water heater soon as well. So, work work work. We rented Monster's Ball on Sunday as a bit of a respite from all the work. Waiting to watch it we both fell asleep for a little while on the couch. The movie, eventually, was very good, though certainly not fast paced or anything. Just a good drama. About choices. And that was it, I had to get going. I was sad I didn't see the kids all weekend, but I guess I will see them next weekend. When Karla will be working Friday and Saturday again, and I will be continuing more of what I started this weekend. Fun C |
