My Story: Service and Quality!
Chris began in the restaurant industry at the young age of fifteen. Like many other people in the industry, he started as a dishwasher. Working hard, he worked his way up though the ranks, until he earned his first supervisor position at the age of nineteen, and his first management position later that year. In the 30+ years that Chris has been in the industry, he has held positions from Busboy to Business Consultant, from Cook to Chief Operating Officer. He has worked in Quick-Service, Fast-Casual, Casual-Dining, Upscale-Casual, Fine-Dining and Events. The depth and breadth of Chris' experience has allowed him to help people from all parts of the industry, and allows him to see outside of a rut that an operator may be in.
Early in his career, Chris learned the value of service. He learned that the good one can do in serving others far outweighs any monetary gain, and he realized that this was the main reason most people enter this business. As time went on, he also realized that it was why certain people were successful and others were not. In today's world, everyone can get much of what they want in their own homes. People choose to dine out because they want to feel special and that is what we do in this industry, we make people feel special. Chris has been quoted numerous times as saying, "We have a better opportunity of having an impact in the lives of those we meet than do their doctors, lawyers, or priests." Chris exhibits that level of service not only to the guests, but also to the staff and his clients. It is something that permeates his every interaction.
Even with this emphasis on service, Chris would be the first to tell you that we are in the business of quality. It does not matter what segment you are in, if you do not provide a quality product, no level of service will save you. This brings an almost artistic quality to the products the industry serves. Chris is also fond of saying, "Our products are amazing. This is art that sustains your life." Chris does not only believe that this quality is in food and beverage, but also in the manner of business we do. It is in the marketing, the uniforms, the construction, the training, everything. If you are what you do, be excellent!!
