Frommer's Seattle and Portland is, quite possibly, more valuable to me than any freshman orientation program when it comes to what's up in the city (Seattle). My mom came to visit for Spring Break. Seriously, if I didn't have this book on hand I don't know what I would have done... I guess we just would have gone to the Space Needle. That would have sucked. If you're visiting, or moving here, or you have someone who lives here, you must have this book. It's informative, it's updated every year, it all around rocks. The maps are clear and easy to read (even for me). They're seperated by category, which is nice. If you're looking at hotels, you can look at the hotel map, if you're looking for restaurants, you can look at the restaurant map, etc. It comes in very handy, especially if you're a new resident. If you're visiting or you moving here, buy this book by clicking on the illustration at left (help finance my college education). Then email me, and (provided you're not scary or threatening in any way), we can have a lovely cyber-dialogue about Seattle.... Who knows? You may even get to have lunch with me some day or something.... ($14.99 + s&h at Amazon.com as of 27 Mar 2001) .
CHRIS RONK'S BOOK SUGGESTIONS
I'll be upfront, the main reason this page is here is this: if you visit Amazon.com by clicking my link, I earn a part of your purchase. Being a college student, I could use this. Please excuse my shameful marketing tactic. That said, I also enjoy reading, and I want to share some of my favorites. Thanks for visiting! Come back again soon, the page is always evolving!
Prozac Nation is my favorite book. Seriously, just look at the cover. Does it not look seriously intriguing? To me, yes, it does. So I read it. In her book, Wurtzel takes us through her never dull, sometimes sordid life with witty stories and cleverly worded anecdotes. We hear of her childhood, her parents, her doctors, her psychotropic medications, her hospital stays, drug abuse, boyfriends, education, and career, just to categorize a few. Prozac Nation helped me, personally, through a rough time by letting me know first that I was not alone, second that things can sometimes be worked through, and third that mental illness can make for a good story if properly worded, and with just enough humor and sarcasm. Wurtzel also touches the reader, and in a very deep way. I cannot say that I didn't cry every one of the four times I read this book. Please click the illustration at right to buy the book (help finance my college education). Thank you! ($10.36 + s&h at Amazon.com as of 27 Mar 2001)

Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a book I just got, so don't tell me what it's about or I'll be very upset. Practically everyone in the dorm has read this book (except for me). Many want to read it again. If you'll notice on the Amazon.com page for it, they don't have any used copies! I'm guessing that this and the book's positive reviews are fairly good indicators that the book is awesome. It's a book in three parts written in letter form. It's described by my across-the-hall neighbor, Don, as a "fast read." Additionally, MTV endorses it (their logo is on the spine). $9.60 + s&h at Amazon.com as of 6 Apr 2001.
