In a small city on the east coast of Canada, Christopher Durning sits in his room with his guitar, Drea, a four-track recorder, a glass of milk, and a picture of you. Through much open mindedness and reflection, he decides his next move with an inspired love and a musical precision. His volatile sense of genre can often leave him feeling musically schizophrenic, but bears a unique coherence to all those who experience it. Perhaps this can be chalked up to his broad musical background. His years of formal vocal training and classical studies have been greatly influenced by recent life experiences and artistic epiphanies producing a unique combination of genres that collect under the title of "popular music". He uses his classical sensibilities and a firm knowledge of composition to produce everything from jazz to folk. He has been compared to the likes of Hawksley Workman, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkle, and Leslie Feist to name a few, however it is agreed that his creations are nothing short of completely unique.
Returning home from an inspiring year in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and sensing a looming pop revolution in his hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick, Christopher decided it was the perfect opportunity to turn out his eclectic collection of songs, "Dandelions for the Dandelions". This album catalogues a precise section of his life's emotion using the sounds of women, children, ghosts, bread, wood and dreams. |
