As is proved by this image, man-eating octopi have been common antagonists in the history of folk-lore. The carving, found etched onto the ruins of the Colisseum, surely depicts a tree-shaped octopus, a realistic assumption by the Roman artist. After all, no attack survivors exist and therefore no appearance clues were available.
Note: Tentacle-like tree limbs
The image has been artificially colored for clarity.
Suction cup shaped etches on alleged "roots"
Note:
Note: Carving contains an eerie amount of          both octopus-like features and tree-          like features.
