Chinese poetry

LiBai (701--762), one of the most famous poets in Tang Dynasty, is a romantic poet.   His poems are characterized by unusual imagination and free and direct expression of feelings. He liked drinking very much, most of his poems show this--he is good at drinking.  

He is not successful in his official career, though he had ever tried his best , and finally was  bitterly disappointed about this . Anyway , he is an excellent poet to write  900 poems to express his own wishes and sorrows , describe  life and the magnificent scenery he saw , most of them are famous.

Here is one of my favorite Tang poems written by LiBai.

IN ENGLISH:

THE RIVER JOURNEY FROM WHITE KING CITY

At dawn I left the White King City  towering among the colorful clouds,

Came down stream  one thousand li to Jiang-ling and back in a day;

The screams of monkeys on either bank had scarcely ceased echoing in my ears,

While my skiff had gone through ten thousand ranges of hills.

P.S. "White King City " is one of the famous historic sites in the Three Gorges. The poet, Libai expressed his feeling when traveled the Three Gorges by skiff.
