The population of Yi nationality is about 6.6 million persons, most of them live in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi . They have their own language , writing language and calendar .
Yi used to believe in Multi-Gods, after Qing dynasty, most of them believe in Taoism. Now a few of them believe in Christianity or Catholicism.
Most Yi are engaged in agriculture , some of them are engaged in husbandry.
Yi has its own works on history , literature , medicine . Yi music and dance are very unique , on the other hand , Yi also has its own excellent products on embroidery , silver handicraft, carving and painting.
In Lunan stone forest of Yunnan province, there is a branch of Yi called "Sani" . There is a famous long poetry which is named "Ashima" , talking about a beautiful , brave and faithful Sani girl whose name is Ashima. This story is famous around the country.
Yi love wine, during their festivals , they will put a jar of wine which they made by themselves in the gate and put a few wheat straws in it , they will invite every body pass their houses to suck wine in the jar with the wheat straw.
Yi worship fire, there is "torch festival " on lunar June 24th. or 25th., it lasts 3 days.
