The population of Shui nationality is about three hundred and forty-six thousand persons, most of them live in Guizhou province, others live in Guangxi province. They have their own language, writing language and calendar.

Shui also has its unique method of printing and dyeing , this technology is with more than 700 years' history. New year of Shui is according to the calendar of Shui, it is always on Lunar September, it is also called "Duan Festival " or " Melon Festival". During the New year , they sing , dance , go to party, watch movies and other show..., there are also horse-racing, ox-fighting and other performance. The nationalities living near Shui , like Miao, Dong, Bouyei, Zhuang, Yao and Han will come to join all of their activities.
