The population of Naxi nationality is about two hundred and seventy-eight thousand persons, most of them live in Yunnan province. They have their own language and writing language, at the same time , most of them know Han language and use Han writing language.
Most Naxi used to believe in the Dong Ba Religion , a few of them believe in Lamaism , Taoism or Christianity.
Naxi 's writing language is called " Dong Ba Wen" , it is a pictograph as follow:
Dong Ba, which in Naxi language means the wiser , are the
wizards of religious sect of Dong Ba . They always have excellent talent on writing
, painting, singing and dancing. They create the ancient Dong Ba culture then
propagate and improve it. History of Dong Ba culture is over one thousand
years , it is the precious cultural heritage of the Chinese national culture
included the poetry , tales ,paints, dance manual , even encyclopedia. Moreover , the
dance manual is the most ancient one in the world.
Naxi live in the south of Qingzang Gaoyuan , there are snow capped mountains and rivers
around their settlement. It is famous as "the world of flowers " and
" the storehouse of plants". Include "the tiger jump canyon, it is
really the amazing scenic spot to both travel and explore. For Naxi, the resource there
give them favorable condition for agriculture, forestry and stock raising. The
precious snow tea and Lijiang horse are well know in the whole country.
Naxi has a branch that is living around the Lugu Lake , they called themselves "Mosuo", until now , they keep the old custom of matriarchy.
But one thing is sure-----all the settlement of Naxi and its branch are with amazing natural condition and beautiful scenery, like Lijiang , Lugu Lake...
