The population of Miao nationality is about 5.3 million persons, most of them live in Hunan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan province.It is the fourth large population Nationality . They have their own language and writing language, at the same time , most of them know Han and Zhuang and Yao language because they live near to one another.
Most Miao believe in Primitive Religion which believe all the things on earth have souls.
Miao love wine very much. Males also like smoking.
Miao are engaged in agriculture, at the same time they are good at weaving, embroider and wax printing , their silverware is very famous for being delicately made. Miao females enjoy wearing silver ornaments.

Miao love singing and dancing and good at these. Their folk music and dance are with long history. There is one famous traditional music instrument of Miao called "Lushen" , it is a reed-pipe wind instrument. Every family has Lushen , it is sacred and precious to Miao.
Festival of Miao are so many to talk about , Miao in different place with
different festival or same festival in different time, there are a few hundred festivals
for Miao . The most important festivals are Miao's New Year, Lushen Festival, Festival of
dragon boat... , the most ancient and mystical festival is called " worship
dump festival", it is Miao's traditional sacrificial festival and it always
celebrates once every 11 or 13 years.
Miao in Guangxi enjoy horse-fighting and horse racing, every year on Dec.26th-28th. they
get together to have a contest. It is the most important folk recreational activity of
Miao.
