The population of Hui nationality is about 8.6 million persons, most of them live in Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Hebei, Henan, Yunnan and Shandong province. Hui use Han language and some other languages of the nationalities which live near them.
Hui believe in Islam. There are thousands of Mosques in for Hui . They represent the architectural style of Hui.
Most Hui are engaged in agriculture , some of them also work for animal husbandry and handicraft industry . Hui also good at business , especially at running catering trade.
Ningxia , one of the most famous regions that Hui is living, abound in the fruit
of Chinese wolfberry , licorice root, Helan stone , beach goat and Facai. They are
called "five treasure" of Hui , which are respectively with colors of red,
yellow, blue, white and black.
Hui love singing very much, they have their own special folk song which is called
"huar" . Most of "huar" are love songs, some of them reflect the
everyday life of Hui. On lunar June 1th -- 6th and April 28th every
year, they have a festival for "huar" which is called "huar party",
hundreds of singers go together and sing in antiphonal style.
Hui also celebrate Gurbang Festival and the festival of Fast-breaking. The former is
on Dec. 10th of Islamic calendar , the later is on Oct. 1th of Islamic calendar.
