But they will retain their core personality. Grant it, there are exceptions. Your loved one may not have crossed-over properly, and may be a ghost. And yet, their is still little to fear in this case. You can then pray for them, and give them peace best you can.

All spirits and ghosts to review, communicate through these general means: through moving objects, dreams, music, animals, telepathy, direct voice, materialization, etc. Each spirit will use methods highly personal to an individual situation or person. Becoming comfortable with spirit messages and visitations (whomever it may be from), is a realistic goal. Just remember, the discomfort you may be feeling is something you were not born with, it was something you were socialized to feel.
It is vitally important that everyone tries to combat fears when it comes to spirits and ghosts. Afterall, we are also spirits (who happen to be responsible for a body during life) and to accept them, is to accept ourselves as well. I also believe a greater understanding of the supernatural alleviates other fears relating to death and dying. Becoming comfortable with the energies around us, can give us a greater appreciation of life in general.

Below are a few quick ways to combat your fears of spirits, ghosts and all things unseen and unknown.
Whenever possible, use logic and healthy skeptism. Trust the power of logic. Always, try to look at a more mundane explanation, before accepting an occurence to be supernatural. As much as you may be a believer of such things, always have a level of healthy skeptism. After you look at all possibilities, then you can accept that something supernatural may have happened. When you are sure something supernatural is happening or has, try your best to stay calm.  Use the logic that whatever it is, it might not have been aware of you. It may also, have been an imprint (which may or may not happen again). It also may have been a deceased loved one, who truly meant no harm. Never assume it's motivation was ever to harm you, even if it was a ghost. This is not a healthy way to see things, and can lead to unnecessary emotional trauma or stress.

Educate yourself about the supernatural. Read up about this fascinating subject. While you will read some falsehoods, misconceptions and misinformation about the supernatural, you can see all the different views on the subject, and then decide for yourself. Knowing more, can help you better comprehend what you have or may experience. This is very empowering. Education dispels fear in all areas of life, this one is no exception.

Better understand your role. You have a role to play when it comes to the supernatural. You are part of this fascinating universe, and possess a spirit of your own. You must accept that you are indeed family with those surrounding energies. We originate from the same glorious creator. We have an obligation to help the spirits who ask for our help. We need to better listen to the loved ones, spirit guides and angels around us. This is truly for our benefit.

When you are faced with a ghost
specifically, quickly put yourself in their place. Try to imagine yourself lost, sad and confused for sometimes hundreds of years. Would you not want someone to help you? Do not feel fear, rather feel pity for them. Yes, you can run screaming from the room (lol), but then calm yourself down, and return to do a loving duty for your spiritual family. Pray for them, talk to them and tell them the reality of their situation. They, like us, can choose to listen or not but it is a wonderful thing to do nonetheless.
In Conclusion
The unfortunate thing about fear in general is, that it can stop people from progressing in many areas of life. When you are fearful of the supernatural forces in and around you, I believe this creates an emotional, psychological and spiritual barrier. While a person may be trying to block out bad energies, they may also inadvertently be blocking out the many helpful energies and experiences. The solution to this, is to merely focus on the good.

If you want to have positive interactions with spirits, then you need to drop the fears and superstitions fed to you. Remember, this feeling is not a natural thing to our souls. Our souls are strong, independent, knowledgeable and
fearless.
