Lord, make us a praying people. Make us people who fast and search through the Scriptures. Let our lives center around You and be in adoration of You. Bless us with ceaeless prayer and hours of intense and powerful devotional time. Put in our hearts a yearning to learn Your Truth, a desire to read the Bible often. Let us spiritually mature into the people that You want us to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Father, send comfort to those who are still suffering from hurricanes and flooding on the American Gulf Coast, and be present in the lives of those suffering from the recent earthquake in Asia. O Lord, You were the one who protected young David when he was targeted for death by King Saul. David called out to You and You listened, you protected him and later you established him as king. Use Your protecting power to encourage the faithful, strengthen us not to have a spirit of fear but a Spirit of courage and love. Give the faithful courage that comes from You Holy Spirit.
