I went to the Backstreet Boys show in Washington, DC at the 9:30 Club on March 30th and it was awesome, phenomenal, exhilarating, beautiful, crazy, breathtaking, cool. There are just too many words to describe the show, the Boys, the energy, the crowd, the band and the evening. Im not going to be able to give you exact details about everything because almost everything that happened before I met Kevin is kind of blurry. I will provide a few highlights. I went with my bestfriend (Chinita) and we got to the club at about 3 oclock. The line had already formed but it wasnt too bad. So, we parked and got in line. The Boys got there somewhere around 4:30 or 5. I know they were kind of late. As soon as their bus pulled into the alley next to the club the gates went up and guards were posted. Brian got off the bus waved meekly to the crowd and then went on inside. Nick came off waved, talked to somebody (one of their people) then went on inside. AJ got off carried on a long conversation with one of their people. He waved and made a few funny faces at us when people screamed, went back to his conversation, waved again then went on inside. I think Howie came off too and waved but Im not sure. I didnt see Kevin. I wanted to see Kevin!! As we stood in line bored to tears we happened to look up at the bands bus (which was parked right in front of the club) and noticed the TV was on. They were watching TRL so. . . . . so were we. They wouldnt turn it up or put the closed captioning on (which was my suggestion) though. Someone asked them to and one of the band guys asked for two dollars. The band guys are funny. They were messing with us from their bus (window) the whole time up until they had to leave for the show. Finally, finally, finally sometime after 7 the doors opened and they let us in. Everyone rushed inside to get a good spot be it in the balcony, on the floor or next to the bar. Chinita and I were going to be on the floor. We started about 8 maybe 10 (rows) back from the stage (maybe a few more) we had a pretty good view, if the tall people (and there were several of them) in front of us would MOVE. There was always room for improvement. There was a bit of pushing and shoving but that was nothing compared to the shoving, pushing and crowding that went on when the lights dimmed, the music started and our Boys took the stage. Without using my own power (or feet) I went from being 8 or 10 rows back (maybe more) to practically second row. It was crazy down there and I got separated from Chinita. There was a moment of panic but then I looked up at the stage and the Boys carried me away to Backstreet Heaven. I got totally wrapped up in the show. People were getting overheated, passing out or getting sick and had to be removed from the crowd, which helped to move me closer to the stage and the Boys. Even with the pushing most of the people I encountered were nice and apologetic if they accidentally pushed, jabbed, poked or stepped on someone. I think everyone understood that it was no one persons fault. I know I ate a lot of hair that night and Id like to apologize to anyone whose hair I may have pulled out. Im sure I left some hair, makeup and sweat on other people and at the club in general. Sorry about that.
Backstreet Boy Show Highlights: The music: amazing, the band: rockin, the crowd: crazy, the Boys: all of the above and so much more. Here are some key moments that made the DC show its own. Brian looked down at us all crowded together and squished into place laughed and said, Yall are crazy. Kevin tried to save some of the crushed people (Chinita included) by telling us to calm down and everyone to take a step back. Gotta love him! Hes always looking out for us. Kevin mentioned that on April 20th they would have been together for 12 years (this was last year so its13 now). Has it really been that long? I know Ive been a fan for at least 8 of those 12 years (been a fan for 9 of those 13 years now). Damn Im getting old!!! Someone threw what looked like breast implants (but they were actually falsies) up on stage at Nick. He picked on up and started playing with it the other Boys joined in making jokes about what it could be. Then whoever launched the first one tossed the other one up and he picked it up and read out loud what she wrote on it. It read, Nick, I want to show you my tits. He bleeped out tits, though. Then said this show is supposed to be PG-13 Howie and the rapid fire winks return! At the end he was going across the stage touching hands and throwing them things out like gunfire. Nick climbed on the speaker to see the people in the balcony. I thought, Wow thats high, please dont fall! Kevins funny faces were hilarious! Even though he was kind of sick, he was such a trooper. Kevin did his signature dance moves! The Elephant and the Kevin Shake as I like to call it. The Kevin Shake is when he bends his knees, so hes in a semi-squatting position. He bends his arms at the elbows, keeping them tight at his sides and he either shakes his butt or moves kind of side to side. AJs ripped jeans. I think when the tour started they were a little holey. By the time they made it to DC they were just plain ripped up. All of his little skinny, hairy legs were on display. By the time they get to Virginia, their last show, hell be wearing booty shorts. The strobe light dance was HOT! Everybody (Backstreets Back) to the tune of Wait (The Whisper Song) by the Ying Yang twins was HOTTER!! |
