Save the MUSIC It's come to my attention more than I want to admit.  "Making" music has become unimportant for the masses.  Children are no longer "required" to learn music in school.  People don't support the local musicians around them.  And musicians are reluctant to share their talents with the people who want to listen.  My grandmother often told me, "Never give up your music."  I fully appreciate that advice when I hear so many people say "they use to play..." and I wonder why they stopped.  I hope the open mic where I participate grows into a large weekly gathering of people making music.  I also struggle a little with trying to teach the basics I learned in grade school to the neighbor kids.  I don't know what else I can do beyond teaching guitar lessons and encouraging people to play at the open mic.

It's sad that so many people miss out on the joy of making their own noise.
