THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS, FOUND IN THE OLD RIVER...
Ahh yes, the veritable plethora (oooh! who's studying for the GRE's?) of fine establishments and enjoyable locations that can be found in and around Furukawa...  Due to the limitations of space on a single web page, I have decided to split this section into the following three categories:  1) Places to Eat and Drink,  2) Places to "Have Fun",  and 3) Great (outdoor) Locations.  Follow the respective links to read all about this wonderful place to live and work!

ps - As I find new and exciting places, I will also post them on this first page, so that they are easy to find...

now, on to the lists!

1) PLACES to EAT and DRINK

2) PLACES to HAVE FUN

3) GREAT (outdoor) LOCATIONS

The "New Editions"...

NAM BAR - As the name might suggest, this bar has NOTHING to do with Vietnam.  About five-minutes' walk from the station, NAM's quiet atmosphere and low lighting make it a very suitable locale for large groups of loud foreigners.  NAM is loved by ALTs for its wonderful "harf and harf", and for the infamous "car bomb" - a drink so infamous that it doesn't appear on the menu.

"GAROU" SAPPORO BEER HALL - Don't let this name fool you, either.  Garou is like no Sapporo Beer Hall that I've ever been to.  Is is pleasant, however, and definately has what I would call a "European" pub-style feel to it.  The food snacks are pretty good, and if you sit at the bar, the 69-year old "mama" will talk to you and pour you drinks (i.e. whisky and water).  My favorite, though, is the draft Guiness.  Mmmm....!

COIN LAUNDRY!!!   Now, I have to ask, where has this place been all my life??  Quite possibly the coolest place in Furukawa, the coin laundry across from Jusco offers high-quality washers and dryers for a reasonable price.  Plus it's clean and spacious inside, with a table, chairs, tv, even a freakin' massage chair!  With the Jusco McDonald's only a few paces away, I do believe I have found heaven on Earth, or at least here in Furukawa...
