   43 The Paddocks

We bought this house last year in
the Paddocks area of Flitwick, near
      neighbouring Ampthill. After much debate
over whether to buy a relatively new property,
with low ongoing maintenance work,  or buy an cheaper
old property which generally come with a
rather more generous garden, we finally go
for the lazy sod first option and buy 'new'.

With its comfy blue carpets and welcome
door-mat, The Paddocks serves us both
well, with Ellen commuting into London
eachday from Flitwick station (see above,
left) while I commute the relatively
straight-forward 7 mile trip into Bedford
     each day.

The sounds of trains are never far away, with
the Bedford-Brighton line forming a sharp
backdrop to the development, in between our
     development and the adjoining Steppingly
Road, although thi ain't a problem as the
     double-glazing mininmise the noice nuisance
(although they are a bloody nuisance during
sticky summer nights when we leave our
window open, only to be woken up by 3.09am
     service to Brighton).

Marlboro pose. One of our shrewdest
investments was undoutedly the picnic table,
which we picked up for a bargain at B&Q. This
vital item of garden furniture ensures that
the garden doubles over, when required,
as a 'beer garden' in the summer when we
    have friends round.

March. The flower-bed hadn't yet  been
expanded round in an arc, like it is now.
The plants still in their infancy as they
peek their heads above the spring soil
    on a warm sunday evening.

  "Where the Hell is Flitwick???"

Flitwick is a small town in Bedfordshire, although the chances of you stumbling
across it on a google search where dealt a huge blow by the creation of a
a Professor in the Harry Potter books of the same name. Although the town is
a bustling little place, home to about 15,000 people, named after the River
Flit, is famous for its Moor.
