Jon's Review     7.3.03
Christophe is reunited with Russel Mulcahy for Resurrection, and togther they come up with a very good action/adventure movie. Yes, in my opinion this is what type of movie it is- Rus moves the whole thing at a hell of a speed, and there's a lot of running around with guns and general excitement. This doesn't stop the movie from being spooky when it wants to be though, and it's great to see that they're not frightened to show us exactly what the killer's been doing, we're seeing just what the cops are seeing. In many ways it's not particularly mysterious either, since we already know exactly what the bad guys up to after about twenty minutes. The mystery is, how are they gonna catch him.

One thing though: I haven't actually seen
Se7en, so i never had thoughts that Resurrection was ripping it off. I wonder if Christophe had seen it, because according to him he came up with the "idea" for the movie (he is co-credited for story, along with Brad Mirman).
Resurrection is a fun, exciting movie, with Christophe in good form as Detective John Prudhomme. Credit must also be given to Leland Orser as his partner, who manages to make the audience really care for him in short space of time he has on screen, and it was a good move to have the last scence in the movie one of Prudhomme supporting him as he attempts to walk properly with his new prosthetic leg.
Robert Joy is wonderfully creepy as the 'crazy religious fanatic,' and while some reviewers have said they picked him as the bad guy as soon as he appeared on screen, I can't say the same for myself. I guess if you were thinking fairly hard as you watching the movie it would be reasonably obvious.
One scene that didn't work too well for me was when Prudhomme races home to find a woman dead on the floor, which he thinks his wife until he turns her over and realises it's his wife's best friend Jenny. I remember being somewhat confused upon first viewing as the film moves along so fast I had forgotten all about the brief mention of Jenny. I think we really needed to have been introduced to her before her untimely death (she was a babe too!)
The final confrontation is a little disapointing as well, but overall Resurection achieves it's aims quite admirably, the little bits of humour work really well too, in my opinion.
Brad Mirman wrote this, and if you want another great movie with a serial killer theme, he also wrote

Notes: Only extra feature is a very long trailer, that I recommend you don't watch before the movie, as it gives basically a rundown of every scene from beginning to end
Apparently the region 1 disk comes with a commentary from Russel Mulcahy. That's not fair!
And yes, I own the region 4 disk ;)
Sorry! Have yet to find a link for the UK
