The idea behind Clan Chozyn is what many vampires have called a "lost cause" and is viewed by many as a "nice idea, albeit an unreachable one." The clan founder, Duncan Bishop, is a vampire whose entire existence is one strange or ironic occurance after another. When asked of the view of the clan, many young vampires raise a confused and ignorant eyebrow, older Kindred shake their heads with looks of pity on their faces, while the eldest and best connected Kindred simply say "strange lot, those ones," and promptly change the subject. Most outsiders pay the clan no attention if they even know of it, while their elders try fervently either to not speak of them or to warn their childer of soft-spoken vampires who take no concern in politics and answer few questions. All things being equal, Clan Chozyn is what many creatures of the World of the Darkening have begun to call the "supernatural wildcard." Apart from being a vampiric clan, Clan Chozyn seems to be a sect in and of itself. Chozyn vampires are dedicated to a code of honor and justice. They are, by design, the World of the Darkening's "Knights of the Round Table" with Duncan Bishop as King Arthur. They maintain that to rule is to serve, to gain is to risk, and to be a champion is to live selflessly. They spread a message of attainable equality: harmony while all take their rightful place in the World of the Darkening. Some speak of vampires in the clan who have inadvertantly acheived Golconda and existed so for decades without realizing it. They would have you think that they are the good guys. There is speculation abound as to the accuracy of that. The shrouded past of Duncan Bishop offers much to be desired by aspiring scholars and historians. His roots seem to be in western Europe, probably France. He traveled to North America for a short time and returned to Europe for an even shorter period. When his roaming was done, he had settled in what had become Chicago. It was only here that records begin to show that he was a Tremere regent whose clan-given mission was to devise a new Thaumaturgical path. By way of undisclosed resources, he began experimenting with strange star magics resembling the Lure of Flames. The path had hints of another Discipline, but again, the specifics of it are hidden and/or undisclosed. The path grew into a full blown Discipline and spent much time under intense research and experimentation. What is now know as the vampiric Discipline Calestine ultimately altered Bishop's blood until he was no longer physiologically Tremere. He was released from his oath of the clan and went on the move again, at which timehe disappeared from the history books until Clan Chozyn emerged seemingly from the darkened skies themselves. Since Bishop conquered Australia and the entire continent became his domain, wonderful but strange things have come to fruition in the outback. Civilization has been restored, but the wilderness has retained its mystique and foreboding demeanor, even though certain guides seem to know all of the tricks to get from point A to point B unharmed. The observatory in Chelseton has been making unprecedented discoveries in the endless night sky...some of which have countless implications. There are even rumors that Sydney is a "free city." The modern Clan Chozyn is a testament to the changes brought on by the prophetic let-down that was Gehenna. Rumors dart left and right of "unholy" alliances forged by clan members with unnamable forces. Tales are told of battles between Chozyn and opposing vampires that are officially unresolved, but the opposition seemingly emerges victorious -- only to return home and self-destruct in unspeakable manners. Chozyn vampires all seem to think as one entity -- some attribute this to rigorous training, others say it is a byproduct of psychological programming. There is debate as to whether the Chozyn is actually a Technocratic plot to infiltrate vampiric society. The power of Celestine has reportedly brought the sun out at midnight and blackened city skies at noon, among other rumors. Duncan Bishop -- known as Caine's Chosen, hence the name -- is regarded by some as a vampiric messiah, others as an antichrist. Others still see him and his clan as nothing more than an undesirable figurehead of an undesirable group. One thing is certain: they are an unpredictable and enigmatic force in the nights to come. |
