Within a few years, he rose to be its art director.

Uttam Kumar

Uttam Kumar's fame and his star-power keep shining across the horizon of Bengali cinema. Every Bengali newspaper in the state, every magazine, literary, cinematic, entertainment-based, whatever, shows a smiling Uttam Kumar on its cover in July each year. This year holds special significance because no where in the world has a star been able to sustain his charisma, his appeal, his power at the box office, two decades after his demise.

Amitabh Bachchan

Twenty-five years after Indian Independence…Disillusionment had set in amongst the youth of the country. There was much corruption and unemployment and life was one big struggle. During this period in 1973, a film was released - Zanjeer. The film saw a new kind of hero, a hero who took the law in his own hands and fought the villain;a hero whom people saw as their savior. The actor playing the lead role, till then a struggler with a string of flops behind him, was Amitabh Bachchan.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee

Hrishida's career started first in the film laboratory and later in the editing room with New Theatres Pvt. Ltd, Calcutta. He came as a part of Bimal Roy's team to Mumbai in 1951 and worked with him till he became an independent director himself.

Gulzar

This warm hearted, middle of the road films ("Mere Apne'' ,"Parichay'' ,"Koshish'', "Aandhi'', "Ijaazat'', "`Lekin'') may have given him a national reputation. But readers of Hindi and Urdu recognise Gulzar as a poet, and author of the children's books he wrote every year to mark his daughter's birthday. Born in Dina (now in Pakistan), into a conservative family of businessmen, Gulzar was forced to hide his interest in the arts from disapproval and hostility. The family associated music with courtesans and poetry with nincompoops.
