We arrived in Taiwan after a 10+ hour flight from New York. Touching down in Anchorage, AK to refuel. Suprisingly there was a full compliment of english language signs guiding us to our luggage and on to the buses. Five hours later and our odyssey had come to an end. The lovely and enterprising Martha Orr met us in Kaohsiung and took us straight to breakfast. We owe her and her roomies a huge debt of gratitude for the couple of nights spent there.
As many of you know we landed in the midst of a very peculiar electoral circumstance that could only exist in such a young and vibrant democracy. The incumbent, having apparently had himself shot on the eve of the election, managed to hang on to power by a hair's breadth, 0.2% of the vote. The suprising part is that he's the good guy! It'll be interesting to see how it all turns out.
As for us we're off to Thailand and then on to Nepal.
