This was our first visit to this well known SE Asian destination. It seems everyone knows someone with a story about Bangkok. We landed after a short flight from Taipei and headed straight for the foreigner ghetto known as Kao San Road. Anyone who's been there knows that this is more than a bit overwhelming - tens of thousands of foreigners packed into rows of guest houses, food stands, and street hawkers. It made it an easy decision to only spend one night here and head for the beaches of nearby Ko Samet.
Ko Samet offered us a few days to chill out before heading off to the Himalayas. We found an absolutely breathtaking stretch of beach with a bungalow to call our own. The food was outstanding, the water was unbelievably warm and the Thais were gracious hosts. Three days of bliss!
