The story of "Dragon Knights" takes place in a fantasy world divided into two continents. The western continent is known as Dusis, and the eastern continent is Arinas. Although Dusis has been divided into several different countries, it was once one country ruled by the Dragon Emperor. Arinas was also ruled by one king. Yet, the Demons of Arinas became too powerful and eventually wiped out the people living there. Now, there are only Demons living in Arinas, and due to this, the existence of this eastern continent is practically unknown to the people of Dusis. Therefore, the story takes place in Dusis and involves the people of Dusis -- including humans, those of the Sprite Race, those of the Dragon Race and Demons. The humans live a normal life producing and selling products, while the Dragon Race protect these humans from Demons and the Spirit Race protects nature.
The Dragon Race (who are immortal beings) consists of the Dragon Emperor (Lykouleon), Dragon Empress (Raseleane), Dragon Minister of Public Safety (Teceous), Dragon Minister of Political Affairs (Luwalk), Dragon Minister of Foreign Affairs (Kaistern), Dragon Minister of Secretarial Affairs (Alfeage), Fire Dragon Knight (Rath), Water Dragon Knight (Rune), Earth Dragon Knight (Thats) and below them, the Dragon Warriors. Each Dragon Minister possess a different colour Dragon Ball (Ryuu-Tama) while each Dragon Knight is accompanied by their respective Duel Dragon. Currently, there is no Dragon Minister of Red, Wind Dragon Knight and Light Dragon Knight. Also, the people of the Dragon Race are not necessarily a Dragon Race at birth. For example, Kaistern was originally a human, but was chosen by the Blue Dragon Ball and became one of the Dragon Race.
