On 3rd Feb we wrote:
"The GLA Assembly have voted for an £80m cut in the 2002 budget, giving a body-blow to Ken's attempts to improve public services. All parties except the Greens supported the cut.
"The equivalent of half-a-pint a week is being cut from Council taxes: will more than that have to be spent by individuals and authorities on the hassle of creaking public services and threats to the environment?"

In the end a compromise was secured (Guardian 13th Feb, GLA News Release 2002/080, GLA Budget Details).
