| From the Townsend Star, May 31, 1913: Samuel Shull Succumbs After four days of critical illness, Samuel Shull passed away in Toston at three o'clock Sunday morning, May 25th. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Thomas, assisted by a large concourse of friends and close relations, interment being in the Toston cemetery, adjoining the grave of his wife, who died about twenty years ago. Samuel Shull was an honorable, upright and highly respected gentleman and his death will grieve a host of warm friends and loving sons and daughters. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, eighty years ago. He had resided in Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska and Dakota before arriving in Montana. On December 26, 1858, he was married to Miss Mary E. Deborde, thirteen children being the issue of the union. He arrived in Montana during the year 1882, where with his family he resided at Toston, Mrs. Shull passing away August 7, 1889. Deceased is survived by two brothers and one sister, who reside in California and Washington. Of his immediate family he is survived by John D., David F., George W., Samuel M., Aaron R., Edward W., and Mesdames Ella Davidson, Jane Osbourn, Mary Ragen, Annie Brasette, Susie Bembrick and Ada Norman Alder. Deceased, like many pioneers, had a varied experience. His residence in so many states brought him in contact with the world as but few men are, yet through it all he was an affable, courteous and hospitable citizen.
