Alta Morgan, former Helenan, dies in Tacoma


Former Helena resident Alta E. Morgan, 88, died in Tacoma, Wash. on Friday.

She was born in York, Mont. June 6, 1889, the daughter of Albert and Ella Lane DeBoard. She attended schools in York and married Thomas J. Morgan in 1909.

Morgan lived in the mining areas around Helena and Wallace, Idaho, with her family until she settled in Helena in 1930. She moved to the Seattle-Tacoma area in 1957.

She made her home in Eatonville, Wash., for nine years before returning to Helena for a year in 1975. She resided in Elby and Tacoma since then.

Morgan was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 28, 1935 and by three infant children, five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Lois (Harold) Fitzer of Elby, Wash.; one son, Howard Morgan of Helena; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funderal services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Retz Chapel in Helena with the Rev. Richard Sodja officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Victor J. Elston, Kenneth Jones, George Graham, Charles Larsen, Albert Williams, and W. M. Burton. Honorary pallbearers are Harry Lemon, Richard Gross, Mike Sass, and Milton Mitchke.
