SHIPPING INFORMATION

IN GENERAL...
I prefer not to ship chinchillas but will occasionally do so. I always give first preference to local buyers (those who are willing to drive to within 2 hours of my home near Eugene, Oregon) assuming they meet my qualifications of a good chinchilla owner. You've probably ascertained by now that I'm quite particular about who I sell chinchillas to. Shipping can be hard on these little guys, but if good flights are available I may consider it, especially for multiple chins who get to keep each other company.
AIRLINE INFORMATION
Chinchillas are shipped via air cargo so rates and schedules are completely dependent upon the airlines. Unfortunately the Eugene Airport is only serviced by a few airlines so if shipping east (or sometimes even west) of the Mississippi is requested it requires an additional drive (and several additional hours of cage time for the chins) for me to get to the Portland Airport which is serviced by every airline. This, of course, entails an additional fee for the buyer as well. I am only willing to ship my animals if they will be caged for no longer than 14 hours.
EXPECTED COSTS
Air Fare (for up to 10 chinchillas) ~ $65 to $150
Health Certificate (covers multiple chins) ~ $30
Carrier Purchase/Deposit (depends on size) ~ $25

A refundable deposit equal to 25% of the purchase price (minimum of $25) is required to hold a chinchilla. I hold chins for free for 1 month after deposit then charge 50¢ daily thereafter for chin-sitting. There is no chin-sitting charge for kits until they are 12 weeks old and there is also no chin-sitting charge in the case of shipping embargoes. The balance on the purchase price, health certificate, and carrier purchase/deposit must be received prior to shipping. You will pay the airline cost at the airport when you pick up your chinchillas if they are delivered before the cargo facility closes and you will pick them up there. Otherwise, the airline cost must be prepaid and the chinchillas will be picked up at the baggage facility of your airport.
SCHEDULING
After discussing preferred dates and times with you I will make the arrangements for shipping and notify you. Your chinchillas will be delivered to the cargo facility of your airport during their open hours or to the baggage facility (which takes longer due to the transfer time) if it is after hours. I'll let you know which, and whether or not the airline cost needs to be prepaid.
WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS
Both the airlines and I are particular about what is considered ideal weather conditions for shipping chinchillas. If it is too hot, too cold, or too humid I WILL NOT ship.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All chinchillas are shipped with a hay cube and an apple slice. They may have water bottles, depending upon whether or not I think they will need it and whether or not the airline requires it. I will also send some of the pelleted ration they are used to if you don't plan to use the same product (Mazuri) as well as their pedigree cards. Your new chinchillas will be shipped in a custom made carrier which my husband has taken the time to build. I would really like to have it back and will return your deposit when I receive it.

A NOTE ABOUT PURCHASING PREGNANT CHINCHILLAS

If you purchase a pregnant chinchilla it goes without saying that she is of greater value! I do look for some compensation for my breeding efforts but choose not to charge you an additional price for the little mother to be, but rather prefer to have an agreement with you based on trust. If said chinchilla delivers within one month of the purchase date I ask for compensation equal to 50% of the value of the kits produced. If she delivers between about 2 and 3 months after purchase I ask for 35%, and if she delivers between 3 and 4 months after purchase I ask for 25%. This compensation may be in the form of cash, barter, splitting the litter, selling the kit(s) back to me, or some other arrangement that you consider fair. Thanks!
