Links of the Week
Time Asia devoted its cover this week to the heroes of Asia.  Three of the profiled are indeed heroes.   The Karmapa Lamas escape from the Communist China in 1999 was like a reviving gust of fresh air for the Tibetan community, both inside and outside the PRC.  Gao Yaojie is the grandmother-turned-crusader for AIDS victims infected because of a PRC blood drive in which donors blood was mixed and re-injected.

The final of the three is the one who sacrificed the most:
Zhao Ziyang.  The former General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party was the last true reformer within the CCP.  His fall from grace came during the 1989 Tiananmen protests, when he pleaded with the protestors to leave the square before Li Peng could order the troops to massacre them.  Zhao has been under house arrest ever since.
