CHINA E-LOBBY UPDATE: NOVEMBER 5, 2003

Yours truly has detailed Communist Chinas history of aiding terrorist states, Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, and al Qaeda, in my new book, Dragon in the Dark: How and Why Communist China Helps Our Enemies in the War on Terror, soon to be available for order here, and later at Amazon and other online retail sites. - D.J. McGuire

TOP STORY: COMMUNISTS PLANNING TO MATCH U.S. SPACE POWER
Lt. Gen. Edward Anderson, deputy commander of U.S. Northern Command, told a conference that Communist China can see that one of the ways that they can certainly diminish our capabilities will be to attack the space systems (Newsmax).  As such, the former Space Command officer sees space as a future battleground.

NEWS ON COMMUNIST CHINA, EAST TURKESTAN, AND THE TERRORIST WAR
THE ANTI-UIGHUR PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN CONTINUES, MINUS EVIDENCE
Now the BBC has taken the Communist propaganda tour on occupied East Turkestan (called Xinjiang by the Communists).  As usual, the Peoples Republic insists it is fighting terrorists, and in particular the East Turkestan Islamic Movement.  Trouble is, it has produced no supporting evidence and diplomats . . . described ETIM as defunct.

The PRC has repeatedly claimed that the Uighur Muslims in East Turkestan are full of al-Qaeda linked terrorists.  In fact, numerous reports (see
10/17/01, 12/21/01, and 10/23/02 Updates) have found the Uighurs to be peaceful, albeit very angry, and arguably the most pro-American Muslims on Earth.

PERVEZ MUSHARRAF BACK IN COMMUNIST CHINA FOR SUPPORT
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf visited Beijing for talks with PRC President Hu Jintao and Central Military Commission Chairman Jiang Zemin.  Musharraf won a $500 million loan, (BBC).  Pakistan a long-time moral supporter of Kashmir terrorists and the Talibans top supporter for years is a fifty-year-plus PRC ally.

BUSH THANKS COMMUNIST DEFENSE MINISTER ON NORTH KOREA

U.S. PLANS FOR TAIWANESE MILITARY RUNNING INTO LOCAL PROBLEMS
The U.S. military is trying to dramatically reform and upgrade Taiwans military forces, but is running into some major political minefields and budgetary problems (Washington Post).  Unmentioned is the fact that Taiwan has been forced to buy every American weapon it currently has to defend itself for over twenty years, a burden many U.S. allies do not have.

JIFFY LUBE ENTERING COMMUNIST CHINA
Shell Oil subsidiary Jiffy Lube is throwing almost $30 million into a joint partnership with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp in an attempt to move into the country's fledgling car maintenance market (BBC).  Nearly every foreign investment in the PRC requires a domestic partner, ensuring the money goes straight to the Communists.

FRENCH TV EXPORTER TO U.S. IN JOINT VENTURE WITH COMMUNIST CHINESE FIRM
Thomson, a French company that produces televisions and DVD players, has created a joint venture with the Communist Chinese firm TCL.  This will now make a partly PRC-owned firm one of the largest sellers of televisions in the United States.  Report: BBC

HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS NEWS
ONE CHRISTIAN ACTIVIST RELEASED, BUT THE OTHER REMAINS IN JAIL
Christian attorney Xiao Biguang was released from prison after publicity from his case elicited the prayers and protests of Christians worldwide (World Net Daily 10-31).  However, fellow activist Zhang Yinan is still in a Communist prison cell for subversion, the same charged the Communists tagged on Wang (see 10/15 and last Updates).

In particular, Zhangs crime was writing prayers asking God to destroy atheistic organizations in China (
World Net Daily 11-4).  A local cadre said Zhang has a mind problem.  Millions of Christians 10 million Catholics and an unknown but likely larger number of Protestants face jail and worse for rejecting PRC-run Patriotic churches.

CYBER DISSIDENT FREE OF INDICTMENT, FOR NOW
A 23-year-old dissident under arrest for demanding the release of other internet dissidents in a chat room message has, for now, escaped indictment for subversion.  However, Lui Di is still in jail, and PRC prosecutors are still looking at any additional documents or evidence submitted by the Public Security Bureau (Washington Times, third item).

HUS DAUGHTER MARRIES LEADING PRIVATE BUSINESSMAN
In yet another example that private businessmen in Communist China are not what they seem, the former head of a Communist internet firm Sina.com has reportedly cemented his ties with PRC President Hu Jintao by marrying one of his daughters.  Due to Hus attempts to be a populist leader, the marriage was kept secret (London Telegraph).

THREE GORGES DAM STOCK FOR SALE
Communist China has begun floating shares in Three Gorges Dam, the ecological disaster that displaced hundreds of thousands and led to millions of relocation dollars stolen by corrupt cadres.  Despite all of this, plus several visible cracks (see last Update), the offer seems certain to be a sell-out (BBC), but not necessarily a safe long-term investment.

REPUBLIC OF CHINA (TAIWAN) NEWS
CHEN MEETS COLIN POWELL IN PANAMA
President Chen Shui-bian met with Secretary of State Colin Powell as the two attended the 100th anniversary of Panamas independence.  Chen had high praise for Panama, which has diplomatic relations with the island democracy.  Report:
Washington Times

He also praised the superb manner in which the Panama Canal has been operated a somewhat ironic line given the fact that Hutchison Whampoa, a firm controlled by pro-Communist Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing, manages two canal container ports.

TAIPEI HOLDS FIRST EVER GAY PARADE
Fresh off the news that the legislature might legalize gay marriage which would be an Asian first (see last Update), the ROC capital held its first ever gay-rights parade (BBC).  Of course, none of these have ever happened in Communist China.

HONG KONG NEWS
TAIKONAUT IN HONG KONG TO GIN UP SUPPORT FOR COMMUNISTS
Taikonaut Yang Liwei visited Hong Kong last week for what is being seen as an attempt to boost patriotism in the former British colony (BBC).  The attempt by the Communist-appointed regime to ride Yangs coattails likely wont work if this HK resident holds the majority view: It's nothing new - America did it years ago.
