Review of Chilliwack's RockFest 99 Appearance

by Raymond Violette, Moncton, NB

The second day of RockFest 99 in Shediac, New Brunswick (Saturday July 24, 1999) was the best weather-wise. Although warm, the sun was not unbearably hot. This day the traffic moved much more smoothly, and entrance to the ground was quick. The bands were delayed for a couple hours while new fences were set up to allow for a better system of wet/dry. There were problems with underage drinkers the night before.

Chilliwack soon came out, and rocked the crowd for 1 hour and 20 minutes. The crowd was most appreciative of Bill Henderson and friends, as Bill truly was pleased to be playing Eastern Canada after being away for 16 years. The biggest surprise of the set was the number of non-hits and obscure tracks. The hits were all there, and Bill talked about the late Brian MacLeod (from the Maritimes), and how he wanted to join Chilliwack after hearing the track California Girl.

Setlist:

Whatcha Gonna Do
Lean on Me
Communication Breakdown (long version)
There's Something I Like About That
I Believe
Summer [Long track from debut lp]
Baby Blue
California Girl
Lonesome Mary
Arms of Mary
Crazy Talk [long funky version]
Trial by Fire
[encore]:
My Girl [extended guitar solo at end]
Fly at Night
