This has become one of my favorite Chilliwack albums... I pulled it out of the record collection to make a copy on CD and fell in love with it all over again. "In Love With a Look," "Arms of Mary," "No Love At All"... the list of great songs goes on and on.

Coming off the "Dreams, Dreams Dreams" tour, the band was faced with having to repeat the success for the "Dreams" album and finding a replacement for Howard Froese. In my opinion, they succeeded. While not being "Dreams Part II," the "Lights" album stands on its own as a wonderfully produced piece of work, filled with inventive, catchy songs. Bill's voice is in fine form and the band's use of harmonies show a progression toward the brilliant albums yet to come.

One of the key ingredients (again, in my opinion) was the addition of young guitarist, Brian MacLeod. Brian's signature guitar sound as well as his contributions to the album ("No Love At All" and "How Can You Hide Your Love")took the band in a fresh, new direction with a harder edge. In interviews, Brian had often said how inspired he was by the "Dreams" album - that he HAD to play with THIS band. And what a great addition he was!

Unfortunatley, this would be the last album for long time Chilliwack members Glen Miller and Ross Turney. Maybe because they sensed the music going in another direction... I'm not sure. Both left to pursue other opportunities.

Why is this not on CD yet? An often asked question. Mushroom records went under in 1980 - taking with it the music rights to several artists' music. In Chilliwack's case, these albums were "Dreams, Dreams, Dreams," "Lights From the Valley" and "Breakdown in Paradise". It's my understanding that these albums are still tied up in legal matters and may not see the light of day for some time. What a shame... All this great music sitting in a vault somewhere. I could go on and on... don't the record execs realize we'd BUY these albums on CD to replave our vinyl and tapes? Amazing...

Lest I digress; if you can get your hands on a copy of "Lights From the Valley," you won't be disappointed. The songs sound as fresh as ever and stand up to (in most cases SURPASSES) the music on radio today.
