In writing this book
it is the intention of the authors to provide an overall perspective
of Children's Church from forming the philosophy to evaluating the
program, as well as providing organizational tips and program ideas.
There are resources available on individual topics such as object
lessons, puppets, etc., but the authors feel this guide will be the
most complete resource available to cover the whole program.
The Concepts expressed in the book are based on fundamental sound
religious, educational, and psychological principles, and have been
utilized for years by the authors with as many as 236 children and as
few as 14. Both numerical extremes cited were directed by a maximum of
two full-time leaders (full-time meaning that they were in the
Children's Church the full time, not that they were full time staff
members), and a pianist. Part-time helpers and guests were used
occasionally.
The use of each concept is explored, the rationale for it's
effectiveness will be explained, and usable examples and/or
implementation will be given. These concepts, while not revolutionary,
certainly are unique and designed to be used collectively; however,
most could be adapted independently, or in a two- or three-concept
combination. The format used used here will tell you what to
accomplish, why it needs to be accomplished, and how to accomplish it.
This guide will lead you through the multi-faceted maze of children's
programming, so that you can start a program from scratch with
confidence, or enhance an already established one. It will also give
usable examples to get your creative juices flowing and resources to
keep them flowing. Through the understanding of the concepts and
following the examples, the reader should be creatively stimulated to
implement a successful and meaningful learning experience for the
children.
