| In the disease of leprosy feelings are lost so that the person does not know when they are hurting themselves. The automatic reflex action that causes us to pull our hand away quickly when we touch something sharp or hot stops working. The result is that over a period of time the fingers and toes are worn away by these accidents that would be avoidable to those who have good reflexes. Also the blink reflex of the eye also stops with the result that many lepers lose their eyesight. This is a terrible disease but a vivid picture for us of how terrible a bad conscience is. |
| In the same way a consience that has become dull by ignoring it ceases to warn us of spiritual dangers that we are apt to fall into. The result is that we do not pull away from sins that are harmful to the Christian and spiritual damage is done. Our ability to see oncoming sin diminishes until we become insensitive to it and to the damage that it is doing in our lives. We lose our ability to walk the Christian life at great cost to our spiritual relationship with our Lord. |
| In the Bible Jesus healed many lepers. God wants each one of us to have a healthy conscience that will warn us when we are in spiritual danger To those of you who would love God's best for your lives I urge you to maintain a good conscience before God at all times. |
