<<   Lesson # 3 B 2  >>
There are three things that the Bible tells us make up all that is in the world.  They are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.  These are the same three things that caused Eve to fall in the garden of Eden.  They are also the three things that Satan tempted Jesus with in the wilderness and they are the three things that will temp you and I into evil. So we should know what they are.
The lust of the eyes: The lust of the eyes does not refer to the natural physical eye in your body.  Those sins fall under the lusts of the flesh and are moral sins.  The lusts of the eyes has to do with the way you see things or perceive things.  It has to do with the way you view your life and circumstances.  If your focus is on the world and the things of everyday life rather than on God and the things above then you are living in the lusts of the eyes. .
Living by the lusts of the eyes brings a temporal value system rather than an eternal value system.  That is our focus is on temporary things that are passing away and we forget about God and eternal things that will last forever.  We seek after temporary pleasures which results in sins such as greed and envy and the love of money and pleasure.
What Makes up "The World"?
The lust of the flesh: A lust is an unnatural desire for something. The lusts of the flesh are unnatural desires for the things that are natural for every human being.  Speaking is a perfectly natural thing to do but it becomes evil when we swear, backbite, tell lies, say hurtful things, etc. Every sin is a misuse of something that is perfectly right when done in the way God designed it.
The result of the lusts of the flesh are what we call immorality.  That is breaking Gods moral law.  This is found basically in the ten commandments, and when we break one of the ten commandments we break Gods moral law and are guilty of a moral sin.

The pride of life: The Bible tells us that God is opposed to the proud but give grace to the humble.  Pride is the very opposite of God.  Pride tells a person that they can be their own god and rule their own lives.  One thing that God never allowed man to do was to rule himself.  That is the basis of pride.
Pride makes a person arrogant and think that they are better than others. Therefore the sins that come from pride result in critical sins, condemning and blaming.  These sins fall into a category called sins of bitterness.
These three things make up the sins of the world which fall into three groups: moral sins, temporal values sins and sins of bitterness.  All other sins come from these three attitudes so we should recognize these and guard against them.
Moral Sins

Basically violations of the 10 Commandmants
Temporal Values

Living by my perception of things
Pride

Sins of condemnation and bitterness
These things are very important to understand
