The whole purpose of the journey of the Children of Israel was to get to the promised land where they would be free from their slavery, finished with the wilderness and into the land where they would have freedom and be able to serve the Lord who had brought them out of slavery and had led them through the wilderness.

The spiritual life is no different from all these other life situations. We too would like to arrive at spiritual maturity where we can rest in God and be mature in our faith enough that we can be useful for our Lord. The book of Hebrews speaks of it as "entering into that rest".
In Jesus' parable of the sower He spoke of the last group of people that the seed fell on. They were fruit bearers. They were like plants that grew up and produced fruit. That is what God wants from us. He wants us to bear fruit for Him and that the fruit should remain and last for His glory. We cannot do that in all the other types of soil.
