<<   Lesson 1 B 3  >>
A new birth is a time of excitement and rejoicing.  Not only for those around but think of the baby itself.  They are in a whole new world.  They begin to take in their new surroundings and begin to breathe and eat and are free to move around.  They have no idea of how little they know or can do but this new world is a place of excitment and learning.  But it isn't long until that sinful nature begins to show itself and they begin to demand their own way.
When the Children of Israel were delivered from the slavery in Egypt there was a time of great rejoicing.  They sang and danced and praised God for His mighty power and compassion on them.  However it was short lived because three days later they ran out of water and when they found some it was bitter.  Their song and dance became grumbling and complaining.
But lets go on and see what the next stage is like
Isn't It Exciting!
Our Spiritual birth comes with great excitement and rejoicing too.  New Christians are a wonderful thing to see because they have such joy from having been set free from their guilt of sin and obtaining eternal life and many of them just can't be held down.  They want to tell the whole world about their new faith and they even put us old Christians to shame by their zealousness. It is a time of excitement for all but new Christian have no root and grounding yet in their spiritual lives.  Living the Christian life is as different as night and day to living the natural life and when they try to live by the the old ways it becomes discouraging and there can be a falling away.
In the parable of the sower Jesus spoke of a second group who received the Word with joy and excitment but even though they grew up quickly there was no solid root and when difficulties came they withered away.
"Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation"
I Peter 2:2

Sometimes I get discouraged.  It seems like there is so much to learn I try hard but I make so many mistakes.  Sometimes I just want to give up.
