I will eventually expand out the mythology I post to include any and all others, but my notes and experience with most is limited. I am going to sub divide this into two sections. One for deities, the other for the myths. This will be a long time in completing, so contributions of verifiable information would very much be appreciated, as would patience.

There is a story of a ancient battle between the forces of light and dark. Every evening, the sun was believed to be swallowed by a serpent whom was jealous of the glorious light and warmth of the sun. As this serpent plotted and carried out his plans, an epic battle began as the sun god Ra began to fight the serpent. In the beginning of the battle, the serpent was victorious, and succeeded in his plan to consume the sun so no other could behold its glory. The battle raged all night long and towards the morning as Ra fought to regain his sun. Towards dawn, seeing he was at a stalemate, he called his upon daughter, Sekhmet, to his aid. With her help, he accomplished that he could not on his own, they defeated the serpent, whom was rent to pieces, where upon the sun was restored to its place in the sky to bring its beauty, warmth, and bounty to all. This battle rages every day and night, bringing about the warmth and light, as well as darkness and respite needed to live.
