Why the name?
The pets on my site are by no means disposable. Some people however, believe they can throw them away like a used tissue. My home is a temporary home for some of these unfortuned souls. That's how I decided on the name; Home for disposable Pets. I'm not implying that all people think this way, but some do. Some people just can't keep their pets any longer for what ever reason. They do the right thing by bringing them to the shelter, instead of dumping them somewhere to more then likely die of starvation or injury. I just wanted to clarify the reason for the name, since I have been receiving nasty e-mails about it. I am very picky about where my pets go, and I do have contracts to make sure that these pets are not considered disposable.
Adopting a companion;
Adoption fees vary depending on situation. Each case is different ( Med. expenses, spay/neuter cost, shots.....). I charge nothing for my service. Everything I do with rescue is financed out of my own pocket and greatly appreciated small, caring donations of others that care about the discard of these dogs.
Sorry, but I do not ship dogs by air. Adoptive parents may fly in and pick up their dog and take it back as airline carry on, or they may arrange ground transportation. I do not adopt my furry friends to anybody, that can't give me a vet. reference.
Home for Disposable Pets ONLY places family companions. NONE of my Rescues are available as outdoor-only or guard dog
You see an animal that you would LOVE to adopt, but simply can't.... Well, how about SPONSORING the animal until it has been adopted? You can donate as little as $20 ( or more) to an animal of your choice which will go solely towards their care until a new family has been found. Your name and the pet that you sponsor will be posted ( with your permission).
Rescue groups and their fosters not only do a lot of the same things as all of you such as; work, cook, clean, laundry, children, their own pets, yard work etc.... but they open their homes and checkbooks to anywhere from 1 to 20, or more rescued animals and their needs. Rescue groups and their fosters finance most or ALL of these loving animals out of their own pockets. Most of them are ordinary, hard working people just like you, doing the best they can, many times not recovering all the expenses put into the animals. ( Not to mention the time, sacrifices and Licenses Fee's up to $200 for the privilege.)
I wish all of you could see the efforts that a GOOD rescue group do on a daily bases. Here are some financial as well as some other things they do: At first it's lots of love and evaluating the animal. What are his/ her immediate needs? Health problems, likes and dislikes, do they have worms, flease, ticks, mange or mites, diarrihea, Heartworms.... Are they underfed, dehydrate or beaten? Are they speyed/ neutered? Do they have their shots etc? Then on to the temperament test. Do they like other dogs, cats, children, men, women and other fears? Some need new collars because the old one was non- existent or grown into their neck and has to be sugically removed, in which case they will need a harness. We frequently purchase collars, harnesses, leashes and lots of toys and treats. Dog food is a major expense and is almost never recouped in the cost of adoption because by the time we ask for spay/neuter, shots, worming and sometimes other expenses the animal is more expensive than most potential owners will pay, not realizing even an AKC registered pup will cost them for supplies, Vet. checks, worming, shots, hopefully spay/neuter, dog food, treats, toys and the unexpected visit to the Vet for what ever reason. So ANY donations are a tremendous help. You can also help in many other ways;
If you are close to a rescue group or foster home, offer to help with basic training, walks, socialization or other basic chores such as setting up kennels, food and water, cleaning up, bathing and grooming, etc. You can also help by notifying rescue groups of outdoor kennels and inside portable kennels at cheap prices orfree which is nearly always needed, or donate them if you can. People are needed to transport animals to their new homes, So if you can drive one a few miles to the next volunteer it is much appreciated.
We are always in need of loving foster homes for these animals until they reach their forever homes.
Other ways is saving your UPC's or weight circles from dog food bags which we can redeem for coupons and sometimes free bags of dog food. We currently save from these dog foods; Eukanuba, Iams, ProPlan, Science Diet, Purina One and Pedigree. Or you could simply sponsor an animal off the adoption list. So what ever you CAN do to help, be it UPC's and weight circles, time, pennies, spare change, dollars or much more, it is much appreciated by us and the animals we rescue.
One word of caution: Before you donate a large sum or significant other donations, check out the group you wish to support. Do the animals realy have food, fresh water, shelter, shade in the summer and wind breaks in the winter? Do they see to their medical needs, exercise, socialization etc? Then make an informed decision where YOUR DONATION will go to do the most good. Most rescue groups are a ' no kill' facility and do not get any funding from the city, county or state.
