Release: The Lovers' Waltz
Angel/EMI Records 1997
Artist: Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, with guest artists
Two words: Absolutely Fantastic!!!
The title track "The Lovers' Waltz", is a wonderful example
of the Ungar/Mason that we all know and love,
not to mention deeply respect. It flows and moves with
elegance and romance to touch the inner-most soul.
The entire album is incredible! One tune that particularly caught
my fancy was the "Wizard's Walk": intrticate
and upbeat, played
with a fervor and clarity that most fiddle players only
dream of mimicking, but with style and musicianship that made
my heart catch in my throat. I literally danced the
first time I heard it. Ungar and Mason composed eight
tunes on the CD, and the rest are a culmination
of Jewish Klezmer music, 40's swing jazz, and folk music from
Ireland, America, and Scandinavia. To own this recording
is to be whole and complete in a musical sense.
