| CHHS Music Boosters
Minutes November 14, 2005 President Robert Wingo brought the meeting to order at 7:00 and welcomed all parents and students. Board Members present were introduced. A motion for the minutes to be accepted as presented was made, seconded and approved. Treasurers Report Rama Peri read the treasurers report. She explained that the Board has proposed combining the Scholarship Account which at present only holds $2,49l.26, and earns only 0.50 cents per month in interest, with the Money Market Account which has over $11,656.94. The treasurer would have one less bank statement to balance each month in addition to offering the boosters an opportunity to earn more interest. She also presented copies of a proposed yearly budget, which will be discussed in more detail next month allowing everyone to review it at the meeting or on the web site. It was brought to the boards attention that two expenses, Gold Cord for Seniors and Movie Ticket Reward were both one time expenses, or expenses that will not reoccur, so they will be deleted from the proposed budget. Student Accounts Connie Holdridge reported that the student account balances posted within the meeting room did not account for the most recent fruit and flower fundraiser. Pointesettias are to be picked up on the following dates: 9th and 11th grade on Tuesday, November 29th, from 2-6 pm; and 10th and 12th grade on Wednesday, November 30th between 2-6pm. All fruit orders however are to be picked up on Wednesday, December 7th, ONLY, between 2-6pm. This is the same day as the Milton Holiday Parade. If anyone has questions concerning their students account they can contact Connie @227-8138 or [email protected]. Directors Report Mr. Eli reported that the band did an excellent job during their performances at all football games. He has 6 shows on DVD in addition to their performance at the Sea Witch Parade. He will look into combining these onto one DVD for economy sake and to offer to families. He congratulated Choir Director, Ms. Kelso on the wonderful contribution the Choir has made to the opening ceremonies. What started as a very small group of choral students has grown and become an impressive performance. Mr. Eli reported that none of the Music students would be performing during hospitality night in Lewes this year due to city management changes and street construction. There is a Holiday concert scheduled for Monday, December 19th. Also, due to the fact that the Jazz band will not have many opportunities to perform in the spring, they will look into an additional Winter Jazz Concert. All State Band auditions are scheduled at Caesar Rodney on December 11th. Mr. Eli has heard from the bus company and each bus will cost $8,000.00 to transport the students to Universal Studios in Florida. This price was checked and found to be competitive at present with other bus companies. The reasons for the increased expense for the busses is due to gas prices, an additional day added to our trip, and an increase in the amount of drivers needed. Because this raises the price of each students expenses approximately $150 to $200.00, Mr. Eli will have to discuss with the students if there is enough interest to still go. In addition he will present to the students other performance options that are more local to our area; ie: Washington D.C., etc. However, he also explained that due to the fact that the School Board has approved the dates for our spring trip some time ago we are now locked in for that weekend. Ms. Gail Kelso reported that the Choir also was disappointed to not be performing on Hospitality Night; however, she has signed them up for Holiday Caroling on Second Street on Sunday, December 10th, between the hours of 11am and 5pm. She will not be able to be in attendance the entire time and any adult who would like to travel with the students that day may contact her at [email protected]. or by calling the High School office. The city has requested that only 6-8 students participate so that they can easily wander through shops and restaurants. On December 19th, at the Holiday Concert at the High School Little Theater, the Choir will present two performances. In addition, they are scheduled to perform at the Brandywine Assisted Living Facility. However, because we have such a large Chorale, the annual Childrens Beach House performance may be altered, as they are unable to accommodate so many. Further details or changes will be made known to the students. The trip to New York is still being researched. All tickets to Wicked were sold out, so other plays are being investigated. Expenses will come directly from any participating students and not from fundraisers. At present, bus costs are approximately $1200.00, tickets for plays are $50.00 - $70.00, and lunch and perhaps dinner will need to be figured in also. The trip will be on a first come first serve basis, but will be open to any theatrical students as well as band student. Because matinees are routinely performed only midweek, the trip will probably be on a Wednesday. |
