Minutes December 12, 2005

President Robert Wingo brought the meeting to order at 7:07 pm and welcomed all parents and students.  A motion for the minutes to be accepted as presented was made, seconded and approved.

Treasurers Report

Rama Peri read the treasurers report.  We presently have a total of $60,593.78 in three accounts broken down as follows; $46,641.72 in Student Accounts, $1.985.50 in Financial Aid Monies, $9,475.30 in the General Fund and $2,491.26 in the Scholarship Account.  She also presented a revised proposed budget for the upcoming year.  This is a tentative budget that could be used to finish out this year.

Student Accounts

Connie Holdridge reported that the numbers posted on the students individual accounts at tonights meeting do reflect monies earned from this past flower and fruit fundraiser.  The balance in the students accounts will also reflect that a deposit and first payment have been withdrawn/made.   A list of all chaperones has been compiled also.  The final figure for the trip could still change due to the uncertainty of the price of gasoline and the number of busses taking the trip.  It will not be more than $625.00, but it is possible that it could be less.  Transportation expenses will be the last to be paid.

Directors Report

Mr. Barry Eli reported there are no changes to the band trip.  There are 100 band students and 31 Choir members attending.  Ten of the band students will also perform with the choir.  A total of 131 students will be attending.

Five band students made All State Band and 4 of the 5 are sophomores.  A total of only 7 made it from Sussex County, so we are well represented.   There are no results yet for All State Jazz.  All State Band will perform on February 11th at 7pm at Caesar Rodney High School.

County Band sign ups are December 13th, with auditions on January 9th, and their concert on March 2nd at 7:30 pm at Indian River High School.

The Winter Band/Choir Concert is scheduled for Monday, December 19th at 7pm in the Little Theater.

The Martin Luther King Parade will be January 14th at 11 am in Lewes.  This is the last parade the band is scheduled to march in.  After this performance all uniforms should be dry-cleaned and turned in to the band room.

The most recent performance by the Jazz Band was recorded with the help of Mrs. Ann Freeman.  To date we have received 40 orders for copies of the performance that took place at the Bay Center for the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  Mr. Eli will be copying those and selling them for $7.50 each.  A small profit will be made.  Additional copies will also be available for families or students.  Both Mrs. Freeman and Mr. Eli congratulated the musicians on their exemplary behavior that day.

Ms. Gail Kelso reported that 9 Choir members made All State Choir, a first time accomplishment.

Forty-Five Choir members have performed several times in both Rehoboth and Lewes in the past several weeks. They have also made $150.00 decorating a storefront window for the season.  In addition they have performances still scheduled at Brandywine Assisted Living Facility and they will be performing during an Assembly on Thursday, December 22nd, at the 9th grade campus.  All 3 Choirs will also perform during the winter concert on Monday, December 19th; however, this will probably be the last time both the Choir and Band will perform during the same concert due to time constraints.

A newsletter was mailed home to all Choir parents/families in November with all pertinent news and upcoming dates and performances.  Due to the fact that many of the Choir students cannot afford the trip to Florida, a trip to New York is still tentatively planned for May.  At present an overnight trip is being considered with several sightseeing attractions included in addition to a show.  Questions can be directed to Gail Kelso at [email protected].

Gail also reported that a tentative recurring fundraiser for the Choir is being investigated with the help of the Adriatico Restaurant.  Further information will be available at the January meeting.

In addition, Beth Thomas is looking into the possibility of a fundraiser/raffle of a Vespa Scooter.

Darrell Dukes thanked Gail for her dedication to having this Choir receive the exposure in the community that they have.
