Old Business Anyone still wishing to chaperone the trip to Universal Studios, please contact Robert Wingo at [email protected] immediately. Rama Peri and Connie Holdridge reported that all flowers were picked up but one. A total of 1752 flowers were sold. They also ordered additional flowers and successfully sold all. Many students did assist during both fruit and flower distribution days and did receive credit for their hours. Alan Bales reported that they have been able to secure several dates for the Bay Center in January to hold a dance for adults. In addition, the Funsters could perform for free if we schedule them well in advance. Many businesses have been contacted and are very willing to support our cause with carving stations and food donations. Ticket printing will be looked into also. A meeting has been scheduled for several volunteers to continue to work on all aspects of this fundraiser. The meeting will be held on January 4th at 7pm. Interested volunteers please contact Lisa or Alan Bales at 644-1883. Robert Wingo reported that several fundraisers are still being investigated. One with Nicolas Restaurant for January, a March Chicken Bar-b-Que in Lewes, and a Spaghetti Dinner at the Lighthouse Restaurant in April are all possibilities. In addition there is the chance of a Spaghetti Dinner in February to coincide with the play performance in the Little Theater. Two more possibilities are a truckload Coke Sale, and a Spring Flower Bulb sale. New Business Mr. Ken Schliefer presented a fundraiser involving recycling cell phones and ink jet cartridges. He explained that sealed receptacles could be placed in schools and businesses throughout the community so people could make donations. Over 1 million cell phones are discarded each year. There would be no expense to the Boosters; the two companies who are sponsoring the recycle drives pay for all expenses including shipping costs. In return, depending upon the make and model of each phone or cartridge, the Boosters could make between $2.00 or $50.00 dollars. Ken volunteered to chair this fundraiser but did ask for a couple of volunteers to help. Ken can be contacted at [email protected]. It was decided that several members would bring acceptable plastic receptacles with lids to the January meeting and Alan Bales would take care of making sure the lids have a clip type lock on them. It was decided because of the variable involved in the value of each phone that any monies earned from this fundraiser would go into the General Fund to benefit all students. Barbara Bitter presented several ideas for additional fundraisers that would work well if they take place in conjunction with present functions; i.e.: Chinese Auction at the dance, a bake sale at Christmas Caroling performances; sales of beanie babies that could be themed to tie into different functions. Barbara and Robert Wingo will be looking into these ideas and further details will be available in January. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40pm. The next meeting will be Monday, January 9th at 7pm. Minutes respectfully submitted by Joan Williamson. |
